Hagia Sophia (Holy Wisdom
, in Greek) is a remarkable building with unmistakable design and a long, culturally conversant history.
It began as a Greek Orthodox cathedral when it was first dedicated, in the year 360, and served under the religion almost consistently for a millennium.
In 1453, it was converted into a mosque and served as such until it was secularized and converted, again, into a museum in the early 1930s which is still open to the public today.
