At a time when ornate floral patterns were the norm, Wright focused his art on innovative abstract and decorative motifs. This passion for the geometry of modernism open his eyes to the avant-garde graphic art that was just coming onto the scene. So caught up by the style, he created and offered Liberty magazine a year's worth of semi-abstract cover designs but they never made a decision either way. Eventually, he reacquired his artwork and they became the foundation for a range of designs in diverse media release.
This design began as one of those drawings and was first published on the July 1937 cover of Town and Country magazine.
