    Artist: Maurice Brazil Prendergast
    ("Promenade - Oil on canvas, c.1914-1915)

    His mosaic-like painting style made Prendergast's work recognizable, even among his times, because it was so starkly different from the works of "The Eight", a group of artists he was often associated with. Prendergast was the oldest member and found passion and inspiration in the works of the European Post-Impressionists, and specifically Paul Cezanne.
    His method employed large regular dabs of paint to construct the horizontal procession of sunlit figures, leaving details and features to be incidental.
