Celebrated on 14th day of Adar (in Jerusalem and all ancient walled cities, 15th of Adar) or Sunset on 23rd to 24th of February in 2013 by the Gregorian calendar.
Purim is a joyous holiday that celebrates the rescue of the Jewish people in the ancient Persian Empire by Esther and her bravery.
King Ahasuerus (thought to be Xerxes I of Persia) had an adviser named Haman that concocted a plan to wipe out the Jewish people living in Persia. His plot was foiled, however, by Ahasuerus' new wife Queen Esther. Feasts, charitable giving, and even dressing in costume all play a role in this holiday.
Make learning about Purim fun with this colorful jigsaw puzzle! The story unfolds as your child completes the puzzle. The picture illustrates some of the celebratory traditions, and the scripture (Esther 9:28) at the bottom puts the spirit of the holiday in context.
