The Gear Cube II is a really wild twist on the rotational puzzle concept. Hold it with the quadrilateral shapes facing you and the three rows rotate in the fashion of most puzzle cubes: turning smoothly and as a whole piece. Now, hold it with the semi-circle shape facing you and turn; the gear edged pieces click into each other, rotating the puzzle and individual color pieces!
This new design contains a full gear mechanism that changes the game drastically, in fact 12 full 90° degree turns to make one complete cube rotation.
The designer has established three goals for cubers to aim for when working on this puzzle cube:
Get the cube from its gear twisted, protruding state back to it's original, flat-sided, cube state. This is fairly easy, but a great solution goal to set for beginners.
Get the Gear Cube to a position where it only shows two colors on each face. This is a step up in difficulty, but shouldn't be out of reach.
The, obviously, most difficult solution goal is to solve the entire puzzle: cube state, single colored faces. This is, however, regarded as less difficult than the standard Rubik's Cube.
If you like cube and rotational puzzles, and want to try a unique approach, then pick up the Gear Cube today. See which turns faster: the gears on the puzzle cube or the gears in your head when you're puzzled for a solution!
