Wassily Wassilyevich Kandinsky (1866-1944) was a Russian Expressionist painter and teacher who chose colorful visions of towns, landscapes and occasionally human figures for his subjects in his early work, to go on eventually exploring more abstract geometric designs and images in his later work. He drew inspiration from music, which is inherently abstract, calling his spontaneous pieces “improvisations” and his more involved pieces “compositions”. His most famous works include The Blue Rider, Bustling Aquarelle, Yellow, Red, Blue, and For and Against. Wikipedia.org
