Diana Sudyka (pronounced soo-dee-kah) is a Chicago-based artist and children's book illustrator. As a child she was- and still is - the one looking under logs for snails, bugs, and salamanders. Her gouache, watercolor and ink paintings' subject matter and aesthetic choices are inspired by a passion for nature and science, as well as a love for various folk art traditions When not working, she gets outdoors to hike forests and prairies with her family and sometimes volunteers in the Chicago Field Museum of Natural History bird lab.
Nature’s best left on its own:
Undisturbed, untrimmed, unmown!
No weeds! A garden bright and lush,
A world inside the underbrush!
And underground, in burrows deep,
Between the roots, the diggers sleep!
